On the current Topics
[#7239]
I would like to acknowledge the comments from Dr, Gutemberg about the importance of digital ecology & other new tools for risk assessment. We are improving those evaluations, intead of entering a unknown frontier.
I thank the comments from Dr. Caspar in favor of a broad participation of all institutions and persons interested on the current topics about Synthetic Biology. We should be completely open to all ideas and views, exchanging ideas and contradictions; no need of considerations about the institutional representation of our colleagues in this Forum. We should keep in mind that ATHEG is a space for Sciences, a bit different in concept of the other very important negotiation rooms at CBD and Protocols.
I strongly support Dr. Tzvetkov's comments about Synthetic Chemistry.
Dr. Herrera's analysis about the importance of Synthetic Biology is very important and very well done.
I wonder where we would find support for the idea that Synthetic Biology represents a much larger depht of intervention in to the organisms. As all the plant breeders know very well, and using tomato as an example, doing interspecies crossings to capture some useful genes, then doing backcrosses to recover commercial types now hosting the exogenous genes, in fact represents a very strong intervention in to the organism as well.
The comments and analysis of Dr. Dana have been very useful for this Forum.
Best regards,
Joaquim A. Machado
