MARD is responsible for:
- The GMO trials: specific guidance on the detail for conducting GMO trials; Specific guidance on the requirements of the trial activities; specific guidance on the condition for accredited organization who conduct the GMO trial; Specific guidance on the order, procedures for organization to be accredited for conducting GMO trials; Scheduling inspection activities for the organization who conducting GMO trials. Approve, disapprove or revoke the Certificate for accredited organization to conduct GMO trials; Inform MONRE and related ministries on the issuance or revocation of accredited organization to conduct GMO trial; regulate the content of Certificate for conducting trial organization.
- The regulation on GM food and feed certificate: regulate in detail the order, procedure to issue the GMO that fulfilled the requirements to be used as food and feed; detail regulation on the function, responsibilities and the operation mechanism of the GM food and feed safety Committee who are responsible for advising MARD on the appraisal results of the risk assessment report on GM food and feed (The Committee consists of at least nine members, includes representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the MOST, the MARD, the MONRE, the Ministry of Health and experts); Decision to establish the GM food and feed safety committee; Regulate the form of GM food and feed certification for the GM crops that fulfilled the requirements to be used as food or feed; Grant, reject the application and revoke the certificate; Officially notify by document to the organization or individual whose certificate is subjected to revoke and publicly inform on mass media; Establish the list of GMOs that have been granted the food and feed safety certificate and published on the website.
