Dear Forum Participants,

Thank you for responding to our test requests and thank you for all your feedback. We are working on implementing your recommendations.

Before we move to testing more complex records, we would like ask you to perform a few more simple tests using the record types that you are already familiar with: CNAs, SPCAs, Websites and Databases.

The purpose of these tests is 1) to test the SEARCH interface by using a combination of various filters; 2) to help you get better familiarized and used to the new SEARCH interface as it is quite different from the old BCH.

Please note, that the SEARCH interface is accessible to all users and no log-in is required. Thus, anyone can perform the tests below.

Feel free to use your own combination of filters. But to help you, please see below some scenarios that you can follow. Using a combination of filters can narrow your search in finding the required record. You can also use variations of scenarios below.

Again, please note that we are testing a test site with data consisting of some real and some test (fake) data. Not all data has been imported from the old BCH.

NOTE: As you select more and more filters, observe as the number change next to record types; selected main filters appear on to; results change/narrow with every new filter selected. To have easy access to the Sub-filters: scroll down or click the (X) icon on the top right side. I am re-attaching the quick SEARCH guide to assist you.

Let’s begin!

TEST SCENARIO I: Find CNAs by region, then by a specific country, then by specific “Types of organism(s) under its responsibility”.

1. Go to https://bch.cbddev.xyz/.
2. Click on SEARCH tab (on the bar on top).
3. In National Records, select “Competent National Authority (CNA)”.
4. Select a region in the Region filter on top: for example “Central and Eastern Europe”. See results below (scroll down or click "x" on the right).
5. Perform one of the following:
        --Select a country in the Country filter on top: for example - “Belarus”; OR
        --TYPE “Belarus” (without quotation marks) in the “Search the Clearing House” text box on top.
        See results below.
6. Go to Sub-filters. In “Types of organism(s) under its responsibility”, select some option(s). For example “Crops” and “Mammals”.
7. See results. Open the record to view how it is displayed.
8. Clear filters.

TEST SCENARIO II: Find CNAs of Parties to the Protocol only for WEOG Region; then for a specific country.

1. Go to https://bch.cbddev.xyz/.
2. Click on SEARCH tab (on the bar on top).
3. In National Records, select “Competent National Authority (CNA)”.
4. Select “Party to the Protocol”.
5. Select Region in filter box on top: “Western Europe and Others”. See Results below.
6. Go to Sub-filters. In Free Text: type a country name (for example: Germany). Press ENTER. See results.
7. Remove “Germany” as a sub-filter (click on “x”). Do not clear any other filters, stay in the same search. Type another country: “France” (without quotation marks) and press ENTER. See results.
8. Remove Filters one by one. Watch results change.

TEST SCENARIO III: Find all CNAs and SPCA records published for a specific country and within a certain DATE RANGE.

1. Go to https://bch.cbddev.xyz/.
2. Click on SEARCH tab (on the bar on top).
3. In National Records, select “Competent National Authority (CNA)” and “Supplementary Protocol Competent Authority (SPCA)”.
4. Select a Country. For example “Kenya”.
5. In Date filter, select records Published in “Last 7 days” (click on little calendar icon, select “Last 7 Days”). The system should filter. If not, click the Apply button inside the pop-up box. See results.
6. Remove the Date filter used ONLY. Leave all other filters.
7. In Date Filter, select a date period. For example, we want to see all records published for  the selected country from “1 January to 31 March 2020”. Perform the following:
    1) Click on the small “calendar icon”. A pop-up dialogue opens.
    2) Select “Custom Range”.
    3) In the calendar box on the left, find “1 January” and click on it. In the calendar to the right, find and select “31 March”. If you scroll through both calendars using the arrows, you will see that all dates between “1 January and 31 March” have been automatically selected (highlighted).
    4) Click Apply.
    5) See the results.
8. Clear filters one by one or all at once.

TEST SCENARIO IV (simple): search by Record ID number. In old BCH, you can search by Record ID in the “Go to record ID” box. This was one of your comments/recommendations.

In new BCH, the Record ID looks like this, for example:  BCH-CNA-CA-249546-4. You see it clearly in the title of the record. If you open the record, it is displayed at the bottom. Clicking on it will open the record in a bigger, separate tab.
In BCH-CNA-CA-249546-4, for example, CNA is an acronym for record type “Competent National Authority”; CA stands for country code (Canada); 249546-4 – unique record number.

Two ways of searching by Record ID:
1) Type Record ID in the “Search the Clearing-House” free text box on top.
2) Type Record ID in the Free Text of a specific record (in Sub-filters area). For example, select CNA in National Records, then type Record ID.

TIP: You can type (or copy/paste) the whole complete ID number or part of it (e.g. just, the last numbers). If you just type the last numbers, the system will look for all records that have that number, including the ones that are reference to it, and the result will be wider. Advise: enter the whole ID or you can omit the “BCH” part.


DEADLINE: Friday – 17 April. Please let us know of your impressions of the SEARCH and testing results by Friday – 17 April.

Dear Anastasia,

Regarding the test scenarios #10620, I did all of them.  And the results are; scenarioⅡ and scenarioⅣ have no problem but scenarioⅠ and scenarioⅢ have the following errors;
scenarioⅠ: When I go to Sub-filters (number 6), I could'l select the data.  What I could do is just seeing the data.
scenarioⅢ: In Date filter, I couldn't finish the "Custom Range" successfully.  I could click on the starting date (January 1st) but when I tried to use the right arrow to March, the startind date also moved.

Please let me know how to do it successfully.

Dear Anastasia,
I did all the tests, all of them successfully, except the last subtest of Test IV.
I found that if you type the record ID and put a "SPACE" after it it does not work properly. If you remove the space it is fine. It seems to consider the "space" as part of the record ID.

Dear Anastasia,

I did the tests required and met problems while doing the scenario III.
I was not able to choose "custom range", however I was able to select the period from the calendar and them it highlighted the "custom range" selection. The longest period I was able to choose was two months. I also tried to select different years and months from the selection above the calendar, but in the end I was only able to choose the dates from displayed calendar, so no longer time period than two displayed months.
I was using Google Chrome.

I tested all 4 scenarios and they all worked well without any issues.
Just one minor remark: In scenario III I did not have to select 'custom range' but could directly choose the dated freely right after opening the date selection / calender view.

Also, thank you very much for implementing the option to search for a record ID this qiuckly. I think this is a very important addition. Thanks!

Dear Anastasia,

All of these 4 tests were done and performed well, but it took a little time to complete and was a bit tricky, because we are familiarly  with the old version.

At the 4th test, we used the shortcut, the first path was so simple and it worked fast. But as answer,  we found BCH-CNA-CA-249546-5, instead of the ID: BCH-CNA-CA-249546-4.

Thank you for your feedback.

BCH-CNA-CA-249546-5 or BCH-CNA-CA-249546-4 are the same record. The last number - 4 and 5 - is the revision number of the record, meaning that record was revised/edited 5 times. The SEARCH will show the latest version.

Dear Anastasia,
I tested the scenarios as were proposed. No IV was quite tricky, but managable. Only in scenario II I was not able to lift a country filter (I tried many times using Slovenia and than also Germany), all the filters were cleared when I pressed x above Free text window in the section that is probably meant by subfilters. You write about subfilters and is also tricky because, there is no sign subfilters.
I find your tasks as a good practice.

I completed all the tests and they worked perfectly, except for the TEST SCENARIO II, at the end.

When I go to Sub-filters and type a country name in Free Text, I obtain results.

However, when I remove the first country and enter a different one in the same search, no results are generated.

I've tested the four scenarios and it worked fine with me. You just have to test/do it a couple of times since it's a bit confusing at first. I believe that in time, through constant practice/usage, we will be familiar with all the new features of the new platform.

I managed to test all 4 scenarios OK. In test scenario 2 it was not immediately clear how to remove the sub-filter for country (there was no "x" visible ); but clicking on the country name in the left hand bar next to the results deleted that country as a sub-filter. I hope this makes sense; overall the search facilities worked well and were straightforward to use.

Dear Anastasia,

The test was a bit confusing but I was able to search. Everything finally worked fine in Test Scenario 1. In Test Scenario 11, the search worked fine. When I searched Germany under Free Text, only information about Germany appeared but in the case of France, both that of France and United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland appeared. I expected to see information for France only.

Test Scenario 111
On clicking “last 7 days”, the system showed no results while the apply button disappeared with the calendar box but on clicking last 30 days, the system did show results.

Test Scenario IV
Everything worked fine.

Dear Anastasia,

I performed all four of the tests and they worked well.

The only question I had was in regards to searching using the free text section of the sub-filters on the left side of the web page. Is the magnifying glass image supposed to be a clickable search button
, or is that just an image to indicate where to type text?

When I tried to click that image no search was performed, but after I entered text and hit enter on my keyboard the search was performed. So ultimately, the test worked well, i just wasn't sure if there was a missing clickable search button.

Dear Anastasia,

I successfully completed testing of all four scenarios. The new interface is mostly easy to navigate and records were found. There is room for improvement and so I have the following comments.

The magnifying glass icon when clicked, does not allow a search for entered text. This was the case when 'Germany' was entered as a subfilter in Scenario II and a record number was entered in the 'Search Clearing-House' field. The 'Enter' key had to be pressed in order for these searches to be done. Why is the icon there, if not to conduct a search?

The drop down list for 'Country' is very long which makes scrolling for some countries very tedious. Would it be possible to allow for automatic positioning within the list when the first letter of a country is typed? That is, if I type 'J' for Jamaica, I would be automatically taken to the section of the list with countries starting with the letter J.

Finally, there was an issue with the date filter in Scenario III (please see attached screenshot). When using the custom range option, it does select the desired date range. However, I was momentarily confused because when the calendar box on the left is set to Jan 1 the calendar box on the right reverts from March 31 to the view in the image showing Feb. At first i thought the change had not been made until I saw the correct date range, in fine font, by the 'Cancel' button. The right calendar box needs to stay on March.

Hope these comments help and looking forward to the final platform.
