The molecular and phenotypic characterization of an LMO provides the basis for identifying differences, both intended and unintended, between the LMO and its recipient or parental organism(s). Molecular analyses may be performed to characterize the products of the modified genetic elements, as well as of other genes that may have been affected by the modification.
