In
decision XIII/17, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, commended the work of the online forum and the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Synthetic Biology (AHTEG), and welcomed the conclusions and recommendations of the report of the AHTEG as a basis for further discussion.
In the same decision, the Conference of the Parties extended the mandate of the AHTEG in accordance with the terms of reference contained in the annex to the decision, and requested the Executive Secretary to convene a face-to-face meeting of the AHTEG, and submit the report of the AHTEG to peer review by Parties for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) at a meeting held prior to the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
The AHTEG on Synthetic Biology held its meeting in Montreal, Canada, from 5 to 8 December 2017 and its peer reviewed report will be submitted for consideration by SBSTTA at its twenty-second meeting, scheduled to be held in Montreal, Canada, from 2 to 7 July 2018.
In order to facilitate the peer review of the AHTEG report, the Executive Secretary issued
notification SCBD/SPS/DC/MPM/MW/87112 inviting Parties to peer review the report of the meeting of the AHTEG.
National Focal Points to Parties to the Convention are kindly requested to coordinate views nationally prior to submission on behalf of Parties. Submissions must be sent to the Secretariat, via e-mail to
synbio@cbd.int using the
template provided,
no later than 28 February 2018.
The submissions received in response to the notification are listed below and will be taken into account by the Secretariat, along with the AHTEG report and other relevant documentation, in preparing the relevant documents for consideration by the twenty-second meeting of SBSTTA.
