26 kDa endochitinase 2EN
Endochitinases randomly hydrolyse internal β-1,4-linkages of chitin, releasing oligomers of GlcNAc. Chitin is not present in plant cells, but is a major component of the cell walls of many filamentous, possibly pathogenic, fungi. The presence of endochitinase is therefore part of the plant's defence system against fungal pathogens as it leads to a disruption in the fungal cell wall formation together with beta-1,3-glucanases.EN
