Petunia modified for altered flower colour
EN
Unknown
No
Unauthorized petunias that have been modified for altered flower color were found and tested for the presence of introduced genetic elements.

The petunias have been tested positive for several of the following genetic elements P-35S-CaMV, P-nos-RHIRD, CS-F35H-PETHY, CS-nptII-ECOLX, T-nos-RHIRD.

They also tested positive for the junctions between the elements P-nos-RHIRD to CS-nptII-ECOLX and P-35S-CaMV to CS-F35H-PETHY and on to T-nos-RHIRD.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

Some of these genetic elements may be present as fragments or truncated forms. Please see notes below, where applicable.
  • BCH-GENE-SCBD-100287-7 CaMV 35S promoter | Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV)
    Promoter
  • BCH-GENE-SCBD-100270-6 Nopaline Synthase Gene Promoter | Agrobacterium tumefaciens (Agrobacterium)
    Promoter
  • BCH-GENE-SCBD-15001-5 Neomycin Phosphotransferase II | Escherichia coli (ECOLX)
Protein coding sequence | Resistance to antibiotics (Kanamycin)
  • BCH-GENE-SCBD-15010-3 Flavonoid 3', 5' hydroxylase gene | Petunia hybrida (Petunia, PETHY)
Protein coding sequence | Changes in quality and/or metabolite content (Pigmentation / Coloration)
  • BCH-GENE-SCBD-100269-8 Nopaline Synthase Gene Terminator | Agrobacterium tumefaciens (Agrobacterium)
    Terminator
In addition to CS-F35H-PETHY the petunias have been tested positive for several of the listed genetic elements. The order of the genetic elements in these gm petunia varieties is not known. Moreover, it is possible that further genetic elements are present in one or more of the gm petunia varieties.

Preliminary sequence characterization of one variety show that in this variety the elements are arranged in the following order: P-35S-CaMV; CS-F35H-PETHY; T-nos-RHIRD; and P-nos-RHIRD; CS-nptII-ECOLX.
