The genetic element contains the 5' untranslated region (intron) of the At1g01170 locus, which encodes an ozone-responsive stress-like protein (DUF1138) on chromosome 1. The transcript of At1g01170 accumulates during late seed development (curled embryo onward) and can be found at high accumulation levels in the dry seed. The intron enhances seed-specific expression of the downstream protein.
