Dahlia mosaic virus is a prevalent viral disease of dahlias. It is considered the most economically important disease of dahlias. Symptoms of viral infection include: yellowing and stunting of the newly emerging foliage or the entire plant; mosaic appearance (imbalanced chlorophyll distribution); chlorotic spots; veinal chlorosis; vein clearing; leaf malformation; shoot malformation and systemic chlorosis. Symptoms vary by dahlia cultivar and viral strain. The virus is transmitted via aphids and mechanical inoculation. It is likely seedborne infection may also spread the disease. Research suggests that the virus might be able to infect Solanaceae, Amaranthaceae and Chenopodiaceae. However, it seems only dahlias are naturally infected.
