Crystal protein Cry1Bb
EN
The Cry1Bb is a crystal delta-endotoxin that is produced by Bacillus thuringiensis. The toxin domain is located at the N-terminus of the protein and likely has a similar mode of action to other crystal proteins. Thus, it binds proteins in the epithelial gut lining of feeding larvae and oligomerizes to form pores, which then allows for an influx of water, cell swelling and eventual lysis. This leads to the destruction of the larval midgut epithelium and death of susceptible larvae. The protein is active on Lepidoptera, specifically family Geometridae.
