Murine cytomegalovirus is present in wild mice populations worldwide.
EN
Murine cytomegalovirus infects mice. It is transmitted vis saliva and urine. Latent infection can occur in most parenchymal organs (spleen, kidney, heart, liver and lung) as well as in myeloid cells, so that transfer of tissue or blood cells might also be a source of virus to recipient mice. The virus has been associated with diseases such as myocarditis.

Murine cytomegalovirus is a double stranded DNA, enveloped herpesvirus. It is an established model for Human cytomegalovirus infections.
