Cry1A.2 is a full-length, insecticidal protein consisting of 1189 amino acids with a molecular weight (MW) of 135 kDa. It is a chimeric protein that consists of domain I from Cry1Ah, domain II and the C-terminal domain from Cry1Ac, and domain III from Cry1Ca from various subspecies of the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis. The production of the Cry1A.2 protein in soybean provides protection against lepidopteran pests. It acts by forming non-specific, ion conducting pores in the apical membrane of midgut epithelial cells, which causes a disruption of the midgut epithelium and leads to death.
