Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia based on Article 26 and 30 Paragraph 3 Law on Conclusion and Implementation of international treaties (Official Gazette No. 28/96) announced that the Protocol on Biosafety (Cartagena Protocol) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, adopted in Montreal on 29th January 2000, published in the Official Gazette - International Treaties No. 7/2002, came into force with respect to the Republic of Croatia 11th September 2003.

The Ministry of Culture, Nature Protection Directorate is a competent national authority responsible for the implementation of provisions under the Convention on Biological Diversity and its supplementary Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
