Result of the decision
Approval of the import and/or use of the LMO(s) with conditions
1. The trial will be surrounded by a 5 m wide strip of bare soil and the surrounding crop will be a regular crop.
2. The beet in this trial is intended for measuring root and sugar yield as in any conventional trial assessing new sugar beet hybrids in a breeding programme.
No beet will be treated or grown for seed increase, nor any beet that will be allowed to flower.
3. The trial site will thus be checked regularly by trained staff during the period of the deliberate release to destroy sugar beet plants showing signs of bolting long before flowering and pollen emission.
EN
To prevent the escape of genetically modified sugar beet to the surrounding environment.

Additional Information
Permit valid from 26 April 2013 to 31 December 2015.

Location: experimental fields located in village Borovce in Slovakia; which belong to the Plant Production Research Center Piestany.
size: maximum of 10.000 m²/site/year

The beet in this trial is intended for measuring root and sugar yield as in any conventional trial assessing new sugar beet hybrids in a breeding programme.
All treatments during the vegetative growth of the beet in this trial will be similar to those applied in any conventional trial of sugar beet.
The only difference will be the application of the herbicide glyphosate on the H7-1 sugar beet instead of traditional herbicides.
This is precisely the purpose of the trait introduced in the herbicide resistant sugar beet hybrids that are tested in this trial.
In case any adverse environmental effects, linked to the deliberate release of H7-1 sugar beet, are observed during the period of release, these will be reported immediately to the Competent Authorities.
At the end of the field-testing season, a report will be made available by the notifier to the Competent Authorities.
This report will detail any unexpected adverse environmental effects that were observed during the general surveillance, if any, and further actions elicited as an effect of these findings, if applicable.
