Characteristics of the protein coding sequence
Proteinase inhibitor II
EN
Plant protease inhibitors such as PinII have been proposed to function as part of the plant defense system. Protease inhibitors are abundant proteins in the storage organs and seeds of plants In addition, their synthesis is induced to high levels in response to stress, infection and wounding.

Additional Information
In the context of PinII's use as a genetic element it functions to enhances the insecticidal activity of Cry1Ac protein against Lepidopteran insects when co-transformed with a vector expressing Cry1Ac. The genetic element consists of as untranslated region, coding region and transcription termination region of protease inhibitor II protein with an intron. This gene does not express in this recombinant plant.
