Mouse polymerase I terminator contains the necessary sequences to end the transcription of rDNA. It is important to note that unlike protein-coding genes, which are transcribed by RNA polymerase II, rRNA transcripts do not have a polyadenylated tail. Polyadenylation of rRNA can signal for degradation. Thus, polymerase I promoter and terminator are used to produce viral genomes that do not require polyadenylated tails (e.g. the negative-sense RNA segments of the influenza genome). Mouse RNA Pol I terminator is often chosen as it generates precise 3' ends of transcripts, which is important for viral genomic RNA.
