Characteristics of the protein coding sequence
GRF-interacting factor 1
EN
The protein is a transcriptional co-activator that is involved in the regulation of meristematic function in leaves, stems and inflorescences (cell proliferation). The protein controls branching and size of meristems in the tassel inflorescence by binding to inflorescence architecture gene Unbranched3. The mutant phenotype consists of a dwarf plant with narrow and small leaves, reduced number of branches in the tassel leaves, fasciated ears and sterile florets. Overexpression results in an increased duration of growth, which then leads to the formation of larger plant organs (e.g., larger leaves) and ultimately the formation of more biomass.
