The present Regulation was worked out in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Belarus of May 6, 2002 “On Joining of the Republic of Belarus to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity” (National Register of Legal Statements of the Republic of Belarus, 2002, No.53-54, 2/846) and of January 9, 2006 “On Safety of Genetic Engineering Activities” (National Register of Legal Statemenets of the Republic of Belarus, 2002, No.53-54, 2/846, 2006, No.9, 2/1193) and determines the procedure and terms of receiving and submitting information from the Information Databank on genetically engineered organisms (hereinafter - the Information Databank). The Information Databank functions with a view: - to collect, analyze and systematize information on legislation and research in the field of biosafety, field trials of genetically engineered organisms, import (export) and commercial use in Belarus of genetically engineered organisms and products made on their basis, as well as the above mentioned information on biosafety from databases of international information networks, and to create a national biosafety database; -to provide information on biosafety issues to the concerned ministries and other national state governing bodies and mass media;-to fulfill international obligation on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention of Biological Diversity related with providing information to the Biosafety Clearing-House;-public awareness in biosafety issues.
