INTA developes research activities and technological innovation in value chains, regions and territories to improve competitiveness and sustainable rural development in the country.

Its main actions are: Research on issues related to natural resources and the production techniques. Research on conservation and primary processing of agricultural products. Agricultural extension through technical and cultural educational assistance to rural producer and his family. Development actions required for implementation and dissemination of research results and experiences.

The Institution has a presence in all five ecoregions of Argentina (Northwest, Northeast, Cuyo, Pampas and Patagonia), through a structure comprising: a central headquarters, 15 regional centers, 5 research centers, 50 stations, 16 institutes, and more than 300 Units Extension.

Among its key objectives includes "Contribute to environmental health and sustainability of major production systems and agro-ecosystems, maintaining the natural resource potential."

The Biotecnology Institute is in the Center for Research in Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences. This research Institute is a pioneer in the application of molecular biology tools in solving the problems of the agricultural sector. Its activities include the development of vaccines and plant breeding by genetic engineering. The GMO detection Laboratory is one of the services offered by the Institute of Biotechnology to private sector and control agencies.
