Additional Information
Note: The acronym "THAV" was chosen to avoid confusion with Tomato aspermy virus (commonly used acronym TAV) and for use in the name of genetic elements according to the genetic element thesaurus.

In the field of genetic engineering, the virus is known for its 2A-like self-processing sequence of the capsid precursor protein. It allows for the generation of a multi-protein mRNA transcripts (polycistronic expression) by acting as a separator between proteins. Upon translation, peptide bonds fail to form in the 2A-like sequence, leaving the individual proteins separated.
