Article 22 of the Cartagena Protocol states that “Parties shall cooperate in the development and/or strengthening of human resources and institutional capacities in biosafety, including biotechnology to the extent that it is required for biosafety, for the purpose of the effective implementation of this Protocol, in developing country Parties, in particular the least developed and small island developing States among them, and in Parties with economies in transition, including through existing global, regional, subregional and national institutions and organizations and, as appropriate, through facilitating private sector involvement.”
Having all information on capacity development projects and initiatives available in one database can provide opportunities for coordination among actors involved in capacity development in the same geographical area or covering similar thematic issues and to learn from each other experiences. It can also help to identify and address gaps and overlaps in the coverage of different types of capacity activities.
Use the “Capacity Development Initiatives (CDI)” common format to submit information on capacity development initiatives at national, regional and international levels, including activities and outcomes.
