AHTEG on Risk Assessment and Risk Management: 2014-2016 Intersessional Period

Dear members of the AHTEG,

We have come to the end of our short but important discussion and I would like to thank you for your contributions and sharing your views and insightful thoughts.

I would also like to acknowledge the enormous amount of time and energy that the AHTEG Sub-group has and continues to dedicate to this work - thank you for that!

I am glad to see that you are in agreement that the Sub-group is in the right path and support the continuation of the process in response to decision BS-VII/12 as outlined in the tentative calendar of activities. I also recognize that some of you made suggestions with a view to improving the process and kindly ask the Sub-group to reflect upon these suggestions when moving forward with its task. We will have a chance to re-examine these suggestions at our face-to-face meeting, which is tentatively scheduled to take place in Brasilia, Brazil in November of this year.

As a next step, during the next couple of months the Sub-group will draft concrete proposals to address substantive changes to the Guidance while the Secretariat will do the same for editorial changes. These proposals will also be taken up at our face-to-face meeting.

During the coming couple of weeks, I will prepare a follow-up message summarizing the main points that emerged from this discussion. In the meantime, I wish you all the best and hope that at least some of you are having an enjoyable vacation season.
