The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) has been modified with the insertion of the Arabidopsis PDF2.1 defensin gene to confer resistance to a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens such as Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Fusarium lateritium and Rhizoctonia solani.
