The genetically modified plants constitutively express the cDNA of the plasidic isoform of adenylate kinase in an antisense orientation. Adenylate kinases catalyzes the reversible transfer of a phosphate group from adenosine triphosphates (ATP) to adenosine monophosphates (AMP) to yield adenosine diphosphates (ADP).

As a result of the genetic modification endogenous expression of adenylate kinase s inhibited which is expected to lead to an increase in the specific density of the potato tubers.

The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
