Responsibilities
The Environment and Resources Authority is the competent authority in Malta that implements national and EU GMO Regulations including the Contained Use of Genetically Modified Micro-Organisms Regulations (S.L.549.49) and the Deliberate Release into the Environment of Genetically Modified Organisms Regulations (S.L.549.60). This Authority also has the duty to promote environmental awareness, manage GMO permitting and enforce environmental liability and other penalties (as addressed in various subsidiary legislation of the Cap. 549).
