General Information
Profile of the expert
Dr. Lelde Grantina-Ievina received her education at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Latvia. During her undergraduate studies in 1998/1999 education was supplemented for two semesters at the Joensuu University (Finland), the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Forestry. During the doctoral studies additional knowledge was obtained at the University of St. Petersburg in the course "Agro-biotechnology focused on root-microorganism systems" in 2007. In 2011, additional knowledge was acquired in courses at the Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, the Netherlands. In recent years, her education has been supplemented by courses and seminars on GMO risk assessment organized by the European Food Safety Authority (Parma, Italy) and the EU Joint Research Center (Ispra, Italy). In the period 2016 - 2019, she was the head of the Molecular Biology Department of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory of the BIOR. Until June, 2021, she managed the Fundamental and applied research project "The effect of zoonotic Q-fever on the reproduction of dairy cows and solutions for reducing the incidence of the disease and sustainable use of animals" funded by the Latvian Science Council. Until the end of 2021, she managed scientific project "Determination of food, animal feed and their additives obtained by new genetic modification methods and scientific risk assessment of such products" funded by the Rural Support Service of Latvia (RSSL). At the moment she is a head of scientific project “Monitoring of unintentional release of genetically modified plants in the environment and evaluation of environmental monitoring programs available in Latvia in connection with general monitoring of GMOs” funded by RSSL. She is responsible for the GMO reference area since 2017.She has practical experience with, and is expected to be involved in the future as well in, conducting risk assessment of living modified organisms.
