Genetic element (GENE)
last updated: 01 Sep 2016
Acyl-(ACP) thioesterase type B geneEN
Acyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterase type BEN
Protein coding sequence
acyl-[ACP] thioesterase (ClFatB3)EN
Catalysis of the reaction: RCO-SR' + H2O = RCOOH + HSR'. This reaction is the hydrolysis of a thiolester bond, an ester formed from a carboxylic acid and a thiol (i.e., RCO-SR'), such as that found in acetyl-coenzyme A.EN
The oil in the seeds of genetically modified oilseed rape plants expressing ClFatB3 contains capric acid (C10:0), which is not normally present in rapeseed oil, and increased levels of palmitic acid (C16:0).EN
