Porphobilinogen synthase

Porphobilinogen synthase catalyzes the asymmetric condensation of two aminolevulinic acid molecules to form porphobilinogen, with the release of two molecules of H2O. This enzyme catalyses the second step of the heme B cofactor biosynthesis. High intracellular concentration of this cofactor is important for active heme-containing globin proteins. Munro et al.
