The objective of the Joint Ministerial Decision is the implementation of articles 8, 10, 12, 15 and 20 of national  law 1650/1986 'On the protection of the environment' and the compliance with the provisions of Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 March 2001 on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms and repealing Council Directive 90/220/EEC for the protection of human health and the environment by taking all necessary measures in case of:

a) deliberate release of GMOs into the environment for purposes other than the market

b) GMOs' placing on the market either as products or part of products
