Deliberate Release into the Environment of Genetically Modified Organisms Regulations (S.L. 549.60)

In accordance with the precautionary principle, the objective of this subsidiary legislation is to provide for the protection of human health and the environment when:
(a) carrying out the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms for any other purposes than placing on the market within Malta,
(b) placing on the market genetically modified organisms as or in products within Malta.
Its scope is to adopt a step-by-step approval process on a case-by-case assessment of the risks to human health and the environment before any GMO can be released into the environment.
