Pea modified for resistance to fungal diseases or insect pests
EN
pWell 09 and pWell11
No
The transformation was mediated by the insertion of gmSPI-2 genes for protease inhibitors using Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain EHA105. pWell 09 and pWell 11 constructs contain a serine protease inhibitor gmSPI-2 gene.

The sequence was derived from cDNA of the protease inhibitor gene contained in wax moth´s (Galleria mellonella) silk glands. The supposed effect of the inhibitor consists in the inhibition of proteolytic enzymes in the insect´s digestive system, resulting in its starvation or death. The fungistatic and bacteriostatic effects of these genes have also been proved experimentally.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
