Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) is designated as the Dutch National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for GMO detection in both food and feed. Activities are carried out in close collaboration with European Network of GMO Laboratories (ENGL). WFSR is accredited under ISO 17025 to perform ~150 methods for GMO detection, identification and quantification and this number is increasing continuously. These methods include GMO event-, construct- and element-specific methods. In addition, WFSR develops multimethods on the basis of advanced PCR, droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) and sequence analysis strategies, including NGS (next generation sequencing).EN
Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) is an independent research institute in the area of the safety and wholesomeness of food. WFSR performs advanced research with relation to the detection, identification, functionality and effects of compounds in feed and plant- and animal-based food products. WFSR supports national and international governments with laboratory activities in cases of food or feed incidents and crises with advice relating to the establishment of norms and methods of analyses and the approval of food and feed ingredients of plant and animal origin. WFSR participates in many different national and international scientific (advisory) platforms and centres of expertise.
The larger part of the projects of WFSR are within programs for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. In addition, WFSR also performs projects for the Dutch Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport and of Infrastructure and Infrastructure, as well as for the European Union, especially the European Food Safety Authority, other international platforms, foreign governmental institutions, consumer organizations and companies.
