TWN objectives are to conduct research on economic, social and environmental issues pertaining to the South; to publish books and magazines; to organize and participate in seminars; and to provide a platform representing broadly Southern interests and perspectives at international fora such as the UN conferences and processes.

TWN has set up the Biosafety Information Centre website (http://www.biosafety-info.net) The goals are to: (1) Increase knowledge on, and deepen understanding of, (w)holistic approaches for a comprehensive assessment of technologies and techniques that involve genetic engineering (2) Contribute to a wider public discussion and critical understanding of the scientific, ecological , social, economic and ethical dimensions of genetic engineering under the rubric of biosafety (3) Contribute to the enhancement of the biosafety capacity of policy makers and regulators in developing countries (4) Promote research (including the identification of gaps in knowledge) on biosafety (5) Promote research on, and implementation of, sustainable systems for agriculture, health and ecological integrity (6)- Promote understanding of, and respect for, the rights, knowledge and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities
