After reviewing the risk assessment report and the attached technical dossier, the assessors- the Department of Agriculture Biosafety Committee (DA-BC), Department of Health – Biosafety Committee (DOH-BC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biosafety Committee (DENR-BC), and the and the Department of Health Biosafety Committee (DOST-BC) concurred that Soybean GMB151 is as safe for as safe for consumption by both human and animals as its conventional counterpart.
The expressed protein Cry14Ab1 and modified p-hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) enzyme can potentially be new allergens or toxins, or have homology with known allergens or toxins.
EN
The potential allergenicity and toxicity of the Cry14Ab1 protein and modified p-hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) enzyme were investigated via in silico approaches of sequence similarity to known allergens and toxins, which showed no biologically relevant identity between the query protein and any known allergenic and toxic proteins. Based on this information, the assessors concluded that there are neither allergenic nor toxicological in silico findings associated with the Cry14Ab-1 protein.
The assessors found sufficient scientific evidence that Soybean GMB151 is as safe as its conventional counterpart and shall not pose any significant risk to human and animal health.
The assessors agreed to recommend for the issuance of a biosafety permit for direct use as food and feed or for processing for Soybean GMB151 with conditions wherein corresponding mitigation measures must be followed to avoid the unwanted release of the GM commodity shipment during loading, transport, and storage.
EN
Soybean GMB151 is applied for direct use, hence the scope of the risk assessment for the application did not cover considerations on the receiving environment.
Soybean GMB151 is detectable using event-specific real-time quantitative PCR based method.
