Risk assessment details
Soybean event MON87769 has been genetically modified to express Δ6 desaturase protein from primrose (Primula juliae) and Δ15 desaturase protein from Neurospora crassa which results in the production of Stearidonic acid (SDA) in soybean seeds, as a substitute for plant-based source of dietary omega-3 since SDA is an intermediate in the metabolic pathway leading to the production of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids, Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). According to the existing scientific knowledge to date during conduct risk assessment, it is concluded that the soybean event MON 87769 is substantially equivalent to its conventional counterpart in terms of morphology, toxicity, allergenicity and nutrition except for the intended changes compositions and did not expose any other differences with biological or nutritional significance.
