Birgit Winkel is an expert on environmental risk assesment working since 11 years in the field. Since more than 10 years she is senior scientist in division "GMO Regulation, Biosafety" at the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. She is expert in the subworking group "Microorganisms" of the OECD WG "Harmonization of regulatory oversight in Biotechnology" Her background is in microbiology, biochemistry and (soil)ecology.
