Overview of activities for Parties and observers in the 2025-2026 biennium

Notification 2025-063 provided an overview of requests for action and planned intersessional activities for the biennium 2025-2026. The table below presents activities facilitated by the Secretariat in preparation for COP-MOP 12, which would require actions by Parties, in support of their advanced planning. Information on the agenda for the meeting will be made available in due course. The table was last updated on 03 September 2025 and will be updated in advance of the meeting, as required.

Compliance.Under this item, COPMOP12 will consider the report of the Compliance Committee, including recommendations. The COP-MOP will also be invited to consider information gathered on national legislation, regulations and guidelines on new developments in modern biotechnology.

Notification inviting Parties, other Governments, participants of the Network on Laboratories, developers and other relevant organizations to submit technical reference documents and other materials related to new quantitative polymerase chain reaction techniques, digital polymerase chain reaction, next-generation sequencing and isothermal amplification techniques in order to complement and update future editions of the Training Manual (Biosafety Technical Series 05)

Notification inviting Parties to share their experience with new detection techniques on the BCH, such as those for detecting newly developed living modified organisms and unauthorized living modified organisms, including those that contain stacked events, and with developing, using and maintaining reference materials

Review of effectiveness of structures and processes under the Convention and its Protocols.SBI-6 will consider proposals for further improving the effectiveness of meetings under the Convention and its Protocols, with a view to developing  draft decisions for consideration by COP-17, COP-MOP 12 and COP-MOP 6, taking into account SBI recommendation 4/12 of 29 May 2024, including the compilation of submissions contained in annex II to the recommendation.
