Uroporphyrinogen III synthase
EN
Uroporphyrinogen III synthase (URO3S) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the ring closure of hydroxymethylbilane (HMB) and facilitates the "flipping" of the D ring to produce uroporphyrinogen III (URO'GEN III).
This enzyme catalyses the fourth step of the heme B cofactor biosynthesis. High intracellular concentration of this cofactor is important for active heme-containing globin proteins. Munro et al. (2009)
