Coproporphyrinogen-III oxidase
EN
Coproporphyrinogen III oxidase (CPOX) is a oxygen-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of the propionate side chains on rings A and B of COPROGEN (coproporphyrinogen-III) yielding the corresponding vinyl groups of PROTOGEN (protoporphyrinogen-IX). This step is essential for the proper production of heme. Without the action of Coproporphyrinogen-III oxidase, the pathway would be blocked, and protoporphyrinogen-IX (and ultimately heme) would not be synthesized.
