Common bean modified for resistance to Bean Golden Mosaic Virus

Yes
EMB-PVØ51-1
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was genetically modified to exhibit resistance to the Bean Golden Mosaic Virus (BGMV).

RNA interference (RNAi) technology was used to impart resistance to BGMV by generating a construct containing a fragment of the AC1 gene of BGMV, positioned in sense/ antisense orientation.

This results in the transcript forming a double stranded RNA hairpin that is recognized by cellular machinery and thus initiates the degradation process of the dsRNA fragments. This ultimately results in the silencing of the AC1 gene which is essential for viral genome replication and consequently imparts resistance against the BGMV virus in the plant.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

    Promoter
The pBGMVRNAiAHAS vector also contained the beta-lactamase gene of Escherichia coli, this was however shown to be non functional in the Embrapa 5.1 line.
Three copies of the AHAS gene integrated into the host genome however the expression of this gene occurs at a level that is considered too low to impart significant herbicide tolerance in the Embrapa 5.1 line.
