Poll on Public Awareness, Education and Participation regarding LMOs

At its tenth meeting, the COP-MOP, in decision CP-10/3, adopted the Implementation Plan for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety for the period up to 2030. The Implementation Plan has a goal related to Article 23 of the Cartagena Protocol with related objectives, indicators and outcomes. The Implementation Plan is complemented by the Capacity-building Action Plan for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The Capacity-building Action Plan has a goal related to Article 23 of the Cartagena Protocol with related key areas for capacity-building, capacity-building activities, indicators and outcomes.

The poll is now closed.

The information provided was made available and will be made available in biosafety meetings to support the Implementation Plan and the Capacity-building Action Plan.

A total of 23 respondents participated in the poll. The online survey included questions on Article 23 that were not in the national reports or other questionnaires.

In their free-text contributions, there were two comments. One comment noted the need for more trainings, workshops and exchange of knowledge. Another comment noted, the need for more attention on biosafety research and funding, including other sources of funding beyond the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Trust, the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund.

In their free-text contributions, there were two comments. One comment highlighted that the country organized an event where caravans were in different areas of the country to promote biosafety during the celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity 22 May and will continue doing so every 22 May. Another comment noted that the country, once a year, is organizing and conducting awareness workshops on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to members of Parliament.
